This summer I took a trip to England that for a culinary obsessed person like myself was like getting permission from the gastronomic gods to dip my toe in the nirvana ocean and on one summer afternoon in London, being allowed to swim in it.

The unusually hot and steamy days included a journey through the hedgerows of southern England to the summer party at The River Cottage where their organic ale and elderflower wine flowed beneath a billowy white tent strewn with ribbons fluttering above the chef, cookbook author and forager Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, who chatted up his 200 or so guests for the duration of the evening with genuine enthusiasm, sincerity and a perpetual grin, even after the 178th person asked him to pose for a photo-op.
