He was a philosopher, historian, semiotician, successful novelist, politically engaged intellectual, academic, and writer of children stories. An exceptional polymath, in other words. For clarity‟s sake, this entry is artificially structured around three main aspects of Eco‟s persona which, however, should not be understood as divided, but rather as always mutually influential and deeply intertwined: the philosopher, the novelist, and the intellectual.
