    ST. PETERSBURG — A son of U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis was arrested early Saturday outside of MacDinton's Irish Pub after being escorted off the property and allegedly yelling an expletive at police officers.

    Michael Bilirakis, 25, was charged with disorderly intoxication around 12:45 a.m., according to a St. Petersburg police report. He was released from Pinellas County jail on his own recognizance at 2 p.m.

    According to police, Bilirakis began arguing with bar security over being thrown out and would not listen when police came to assist and explained that the bar was within its rights.

    He was arrested after he refused "to calm down and to walk away" and then "loudly yelled f--- you at police," according to the report.

    Gus Bilirakis represents Florida's 12th Congressional District, which covers all of Pasco and northern parts of Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. He is running for a seventh term in the Nov. 6 election.

    Detectives found fighting birds and a ring, and a training dummy at the Florida home

    Lee County, FL — Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy today applauded the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for arresting a man who was running a cockfighting ring in the backyard of a home on Texas Road in Lehigh Acres, Fla.

    “We applaud Lee County Sheriff’s detectives who dismantled this barbaric and criminal cockfighting ring,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action, which is leading a national campaign against staged animal fighting. “Animal fighting is a felony in Florida and it is bound up with other crimes degrading the safety of our communities.”
